Congrats! You’re engaged! Immediately your head is filled with endless thoughts of happy times and honeymoons. Hold on. The big event, while months or a year-or-more away, requires ample planning.

So, put those happy thoughts aside for a few moments and put on your planning hat and start with a wedding checklist.

A comprehensive wedding checklist should, at the very least, include the following:

  • Tasks to be completed
  • Who is responsible
  • Date to be completed

Below is a summary of some of the items that should be on your wedding checklist.

  • Consider, visit and reserve the locations for the ceremony and reception
  • Identify and ask the wedding officiant
  • Make plans for bridal shower and bachelor and bachelorette parties
  • Obtain the marriage license
  • Visit and reserve sites for the rehearsal dinner
  • Select and order the cake (or pies or some other delectable treat if you prefer)
  • Shop for wedding attire, for bride, groom, and make decisions for all attendants
  • Develop short list of caterers and set times for tasting
  • Make arrangements for a wedding planner to help with the details
  • Reserve the services of a DJ or band
  • Make honeymoon plans and reservations

Checklists are helpful, whether you’re talking home-related “to-do” lists, lists for grocery shopping, or — in this case — getting your wedding planned and organized. Now, all that’s left is for you to start getting your act and your list together.
